Those headed to Walt Disney World for the holidays may rarely have to pull out a credit card.
Disney has announced that its massive Orlando-area theme park and resort will now accept contactless forms of payment like Apple Pay and Google Wallet beginning this Wednesday, Dec. 24.
The rollout will cover most of the park's stores, bars, quick-service restaurants and ticket booths. But table-service restaurants and other places that use portable payment terminals will be excluded for now, the company said.
The theme park has already started to transition into contactless payments with its ticketing system. The new mobile payments rollout will make use of the RFID system already in place for the park's MyMagic+ program, which includes water-proof wristband tickets that resort guests can use to pay for food and merchandise.
In size and attendance, Walt Disney World is the biggest of the entertainment giant's six theme parks with around 18 million visitors per year. The company also plans to debut the payment system at its smaller Disneyland park in California next year.
Disney was one of the first companies to get onboard with Apple Pay when it launched in the United States in October. The company has already agreed to outfit all of its retail stores to support the payment method.
While Apple Pay is by no means universally accepted, it does seem to be gaining more tractionthan some of its competitors that have been around longer like Google Wallet and Softcard. Last week, Apple announced that it had enlisted dozens of new stores and banks to accept the payment platform, and the company says it now supports credit cards that make up 90% of the country's credit purchases.
