Yahoo Now Distributing Recycled Usernames

That elusive username you've always dreamed of may finally be within reach.
Yahoo has officially begun distributing recycled usernames. The move is part of a project announced in July to deactivate Yahoo accounts that haven't been used in the past year, making them available for others. Invitations are now being rolled out to those who had created a wish list of usernames before an Aug. 7 deadline.
Top requests from the initial offering include David, Michael and Alex for men, and Maria, Jennifer and Jessica for women. Batman and Superman also reportedly topped the list.
Those who didn't score their username of choice this time around were automatically added to a “Watchlist,” for their dream name. When a name becomes available, recipients will have 14 days to claim it before it goes to the next person in line.
If you haven't created a wish list yet, fear not — you can still participate. For $1.99 you can have your top five username choices added to the Watchlist for the next three years.

As for previous username owners, Yahoo is working with Facebook and others to ensure that important email –- such as password resets -– meant for the old address owner don't find their way to the new owner.
